INNOAQUA joins the 8th REMSP Congress to highlight sustainable aquaculture and female leadership in the blue economy

Innoaqua - REMSP Congress

On 6–7 June 2025, the INNOAQUA project was proudly presented by our partner LEITAT at the 8th National Congress of the Spanish Network of Women in the Fisheries Sector (REMSP), held at the Sixto Mir Auditorium in La Ràpita (Tarragona). Organised by the General Secretariat for Fisheries of Spain’s Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA) in collaboration with the Catalan Directorate General for Maritime Policy and Sustainable Fisheries, this year’s congress focused on female leadership, generational renewal, and the blue economy.

Through interactive sessions, coaching workshops, and expert panels, the congress explored how women are shaping a more inclusive and sustainable future for the fisheries and aquaculture sectors. LEITAT’s participation in the programme offered an opportunity to introduce INNOAQUA’s work in promoting innovative algae-based aquaculture systems as part of Europe’s shift toward more circular and resilient food systems.

By aligning with the values of gender equality, knowledge transfer, and sustainability, INNOAQUA contributes to the broader vision of a just transition in the blue economy, one that actively includes women and young professionals as agents of change.

We are grateful to REMSP and MAPA for offering this unique platform to amplify women’s voices and share best practices for inclusive innovation in aquaculture.

Stay tuned for more updates on INNOAQUA’s engagement with stakeholders across Europe.
