The INNOAQUA project continues to advance sustainable and innovative aquaculture solutions across Europe, marking its third year with key milestones in research, demonstration and stakeholder engagement.

At the end of May 2026, partners gathered in Porto for the General Assembly hosted at INESC TEC. Over a week, the consortium reviewed progress across all work packages and strengthened alignment towards integrated and circular aquaculture systems as the project enters its final phase. Dedicated sessions explored sustainability and circularity KPIs, data collection and regulatory risk mitigation.

A highlight of the meeting was the presentation of seafood prototypes developed within the project, a tangible demonstration of research outcomes and their potential for real-world application. Partners also visited SEA EIGHT’s facilities, gaining first-hand insight into land-based aquaculture operations and the progress of INNOAQUA’s DEMO Site #2.

Summer School successfully completed

INNOAQUA co-organised the SAFE–AWARE–INNOAQUA Summer School 2026, bringing together students, researchers and industry stakeholders to exchange knowledge on circular bioeconomy solutions for sustainable aquaculture.

Structured across three thematic sessions, the programme explored innovation and circular resource use, the development of SMART-IMTA systems and integrated production approaches, and sustainability assessment, policy frameworks and economic aspects. The initiative offered a dynamic platform for interdisciplinary exchange, highlighting the growing interest in circular and sustainable aquaculture systems across Europe.

INNOAQUA at international events

INNOAQUA continues to strengthen its visibility through active participation in major international events across the aquaculture and blue bioeconomy sectors. The project was showcased at Seagriculture EU 2026, Seafood Expo Global 2026 and World Aquaculture Singapore 2026, contributing to discussions on sustainable aquaculture, macroalgae innovation and circular production systems.

INNOAQUA also organised a dedicated workshop on Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture (IMTA), bringing stakeholders together to address technological and regulatory challenges and exchange perspectives on integrated aquaculture systems.
