The INNOAQUA project was showcased at Aquaculture 2025, the world’s largest aquaculture conference, held in New Orleans, Louisiana (USA), on March 8, 2025The European Aquaculture Society (EAS), a key partner in the project, presented INNOAQUA in the Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture (IMTA) session, highlighting its innovative approach to sustainable aquaculture.

The presentation, titled “INNOAQUA – Sustainable Aquaculture Practices for Innovative Seafood Products,” focused on the project’s commitment to environmentally responsible seafood production and technological advancements in aquaculture. It emphasized the integration of algae-based solutions, circular economy principles, and digital innovations to enhance the sustainability of the sector.

AQUACULTURE 2025: The World’s Largest Aquaculture Event

Every three years, the Triennial Aquaculture Conference brings together nearly 4,000 attendees from over 90 countries, making it the most significant gathering of aquaculture professionals worldwide. The event combines the annual meetings of major industry organizations, including:

  • National Shellfisheries Association
  • Fish Culture Section of the American Fisheries Society
  • World Aquaculture Society
  • National Aquaculture Association

The 2025 edition featured technical sessions, producer seminars, and discussions on innovative practices covering virtually all aquaculture species. Special sessions were also organized by the Aquacultural Engineering Society and the International Association of Aquaculture Economics and Management.

INNOAQUA’s Contribution to Sustainable Aquaculture

As part of the IMTA session, EAS’s presentation reinforced INNOAQUA’s role in paving the way for eco-friendly aquaculture solutions. By promoting circular and integrated production models, the project aims to optimize resource efficiency while reducing environmental impact. The presentation was well received, sparking engaging discussions on the future of sustainable aquaculture.
