From 17 to 19 November 2025, the 39th EFFoST International Conference will take place in Porto, Portugal, under the theme “Fostering the Transition to Sustainable Food Systems: Embracing Novelty and Overcoming Challenges.” Hosted by Universidade Católica Portuguesa – Faculty of Biotechnology, this prestigious event will bring together leading experts, researchers, and industry professionals committed to building a more sustainable and resilient food future.

Among the participants, LEITAT, partner of the Horizon Europe INNOAQUA Project, will represent the consortium through a poster presentation highlighting INNOAQUA’s innovative work on integrating algae into sustainable aquaculture and food systems. The presentation will contribute to the dialogue on how novel aquatic biomass can support the transition toward circular and sustainable food production.

The INNOAQUA Project explores new pathways for sustainable aquaculture by developing algae-based foods and solutions, emphasising ecology, circularity, and digitalisation concepts. By promoting responsible production and resource efficiency, INNOAQUA aligns perfectly with the EFFoST2025 themes — particularly in the areas of Novel and Alternative Food Sources and Sustainable Food Processing and Packaging Innovations.

EFFoST2025 offers a unique platform for collaboration among scientists, policymakers, and innovators, sharing the latest research and technological advances shaping the food systems of tomorrow. LEITAT’s participation marks an important milestone for INNOAQUA’s dissemination efforts and reinforces its commitment to advancing sustainable aquaculture and food innovation at the European level.
