The Farm to Fork Strategy is at the heart of the European Green Deal aiming to make food systems fair, healthy and environmentally-friendly.

Putting our food systems on a sustainable path also brings new opportunities for operators in the food value chain. New technologies and scientific discoveries, combined with increasing public awareness and demand for sustainable food, will benefit all stakeholders.

The Farm to Fork Strategy aims to accelerate our transition to a sustainable food system that should:

  • Have a neutral or positive environmental impact
  • Help to mitigate climate change and adapt to its impacts
    reverse the loss of biodiversity
  • Ensure food security, nutrition and public health, making sure that everyone has access to sufficient, safe, nutritious, sustainable food
  • Preserve affordability of food while generating fairer economic returns, fostering competitiveness of the EU supply sector and promoting fair trade

Within this context, the INNOAQUA Project aims to pave the path towards the upcoming sustainable and diversified EU in-land aquaculture industry by leaning on the demonstration and mainstreaming of innovative algae-based foods and solutions, and ecology, circularity and digitalization concepts.

Aquaculture is booming across the Asia-Pacific region, and Singapore is once again at its centre. From 2 to 5 June 2026, the World Aquaculture Society returns to Singapore for its flagship annual conference, gathering producers, researchers, and technology providers from around the world under the theme “High Yield Production Through Nutrition, Health, Genetics and Resources.”
On 26 May 2026, the INNOAQUA project successfully hosted its Workshop on Seaweed and Fish Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture (IMTA), bringing together a diverse group of stakeholders from across the aquaculture and blue biotechnology sectors. The online event was co-organised by project partners A4F – Algae for Future, SEA EIGHT, and INESC TEC, and aimed to foster discussion on innovative pathways towards more sustainable aquaculture systems in Europe.
