INNOAQUA was present at Agrokomplex 2026, the largest agricultural and food exhibition in Slovakia, held in Nitra from 2 to 6 September 2026. Co-organised by the Slovak Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and officially opened by the country’s President, Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture, this year’s edition welcomed nearly 100,000 visitors and 530 exhibitors from nine countries.
A Shared Stand for European Research
The project was represented by PEDAL Consulting, the Slovak partner leading INNOAQUA’s communication, dissemination and exploitation work. At its stand in Pavilion M2, the PEDAL team showcased INNOAQUA together with seven other European projects on agriculture, bioeconomy, circular economy and rural development, with information materials and project results displayed on screens.
Over the five days, the team spoke directly with farmers, businesses, researchers, public authorities, students and members of the public, explaining how INNOAQUA combines fish farming with algae cultivation to develop new food ingredients.
Aquaculture at a Fair Focused on Drought
This year’s theme, innovation and the fight against drought, put water use at the centre of the fair and gave the project’s message a clear connection with visitors. INNOAQUA’s work builds on recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) and integrated multi-trophic aquaculture (IMTA), both designed to make better use of water and nutrients in food production. With Agrokomplex asking how food production can adapt to drought, INNOAQUA brought a perspective from aquaculture, where getting more food out of the same resources can be part of the answer.
New seafood and algae-based products will only succeed if consumers are ready to try them, and conversations with non-specialist audiences at events like Agrokomplex are part of preparing that step.
